Over the years I have managed to acquire a few old maps of Mirfield; samples of which can be viewed on this page.

Converting maps to a format suitable for viewing on the web is a real pain, have you ever tried scanning a 1.5 Metre square sheet of paper on an A4 scanner?!

Obviously the secret is to do it in small sections and then edit them back together using a package such as COREL DRAW.

You then have a nice digital image of the map but one very large file. By resizing the map the file size can be reduced to a more manageable size.

Care needs to be taken while doing this because below a certain size the maps resolution will be reduced to such a point the image will become illegible.

The file size can be still further reduced by converting it to a compressed format (JPEG,GIF etc).

JASC PAINT SHOP PRO has some very good optimiser functions plus the ability to preview images in a web browser for doing this.

If you don't have a broad band connection.

These maps will take at least 1minute to load!

Take a look at the Map links below to find old and new maps, plus ariel photographs your neighborhood.
